Frontiers and Challenges in Quantum Biology (16 Apr 2026)

In 1932, Niels Bohr outlined a set of speculative ideas on the possible relevance of quantum physics to living systems in his lecture “Light and Life,” delivered at the International Congress on Light Therapy in Copenhagen. Nearly a century later, this conference returns to the same city to revisit and develop those early ideas, bringing together researchers working at the interface of physics and biology in what has since become known as quantum biology.

Taking place from 16–17 April at the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen, the meeting will provide an interdisciplinary forum for scientists interested in both the theoretical and experimental application of quantum concepts to biological systems. The programme will feature keynote talks by internationally recognised leaders in the field, alongside ample time for in-depth discussion and a poster session aimed at students and early-career researchers.

Participation is free, but a registration is required due to limited seating. More details are available at: https://indico.nbi.ku.dk/event/2190/

MPDEE'26 - International Conference on Models in Population Dynamics, Ecology and Evolution (20 Apr 2026)

The meeting continues the annual conference series (MPDE/MPDEE) which started in 2007. It will consider applications of mathematical modelling to explore processes and mechanisms in various biological systems ranging from a cell to the human society. A special focus will be on the interplay between ecology and evolution across time and space, in particular under the effect of climate change.

MPDEE’26 is also expected to explore similarities between modelling techniques traditionally applied in ecology and evolution and those used in other life sciences with the purpose to enhance interdisciplinary approaches and to stimulate further advances in population dynamics, ecology and evolution.

For more details, including important deadlines and registration fees, please visit the conference website at https://dbearup.github.io/mpdee26/

Essentials of Infectious Disease Modelling and Economic Evaluation (8 Jun 2026)

The University of Bristol Medical School offer intensive online short courses designed for researchers and healthcare practitioners. We are delighted to confirm that bookings for our popular Essentials of Infectious Disease Modelling and Economic Evaluation short course are open.

Mathematical modelling is an important tool that can be used to understand the dynamics of infectious diseases. Academics working within Bristol Medical School, including those who tutor on the course, are involved in international research on human and zoonotic infectious diseases to help understand epidemics and predict the future burden of diseases, as well as the impact of different control measures to inform policy.

This course aims to cover the essentials of infectious disease modelling including economic evaluation. The course will provide attendees with the ability to start understanding modelling studies and work with modellers.

This conference will provide an overview of the mathematical issues raised by microswimming - optimal control, fluid-structure interaction, geometric modeling, dynamics of active systems - and will highlight the challenges facing mathematicians in an inherently multidisciplinary field, where rigorous modeling meets the inventiveness of concrete applications. It will bring together master's students, doctoral students, post-doctoral researchers, researchers, teacher-researchers, and professionals from several fields: biology, mechanics, modeling, and mathematical analysis.

Collective cell migration and pattern formation are entwined phenomena of immense fascination. Development, tissue repair and disease progression all involve coordination between cell movements, growth, and intercellular signalling processes.

The aim of this workshop is to draw together state of the art techniques within (i) the biological mechanisms that underpin processes of collective cell migration and pattern formation, (ii) the mathematical and computational models used to study these phenomena, and (iii) the analytical tools that can be used to unlock core properties contained within these models.

Workshop in "Mathematical Approaches to Spatial Biology" (8 Sep 2026)

We are pleased to announce the “Mathematical Approaches to Spatial Biology” symposium, which will take place at Durham University, UK, from Tuesday 8 September to Friday 11 September 2026.

This four-day symposium will focus on the theory and applications of mathematical models for biological systems in which space and structure play a fundamental role. Topics will range from PDEs and agent-based models to multiscale and mean-field approaches, bringing together theoretical and applied mathematicians interested in understanding and validating biological mechanisms in complex spatiotemporal systems.

The list of confirmed speakers and the preliminary programme are available on the workshop website:

https://sites.google.com/view/durham-spatial-biology/

Thanks to generous support from the ICMS and Durham University, we can fund the attendance of a number of early career researchers, and researchers from developing countries.

Please fill out the application form below by March 31st, 2026, to apply to attend and/or receive financial support:
