CALL FOR CANDIDACIES FOR MEMBERSHIP TO THE ESMTB BOARD
The European Society for Mathematical and Theoretical Biology (ESMTB)
promotes excellent activities on theoretical approaches and
mathematical tools in biology and medicine in a European and wider
context. This goal is pursued by encouraging community networking and
scientific collaboration, as well as the organization of summer schools
and conferences, in particular of the bi-annual European Conference in
Mathematical and Theoretical Biology (ECMTB). ESMTB also organizes
online colloquia in topics of interest to its members, awards travel
grants and prizes such as the Reinhart Heinrich Doctoral Thesis Award
and the Ovide Arino Outreach Award and it selects the paper winning the
Karl-Peter-Hadeler Prize of the Journal of Mathematical Biology. An
annual report is published yearly, the ESMTB Communications, available
for download on our website www.esmtb.org.
The
Board conducts its actions mainly through online meetings; it meets in
person during the ECMTBs. A substantial part of the work and decisions
are done, of course, by e-mail.
In
2023 the ESMTB members will elect (via electronic ballots managed by
the current Board) four new Board members, whose period of office will
run from January 2024 through December 2029.
The call is now open for mathematical and theoretical biologists, who are invited to candidate themselves for the position of ESMTB Board Member.
Candidates should communicate their intention to become part of the Board by sending an email to the current ESMTB Secretary (Sílvia Cuadrado, Silvia.Cuadrado@uab.cat)
attaching a photograph and a statement (up to 1000 characters)
describing their scientific activities and interests as well as their
plans for ESMTB. These should be sent no later than 31st May 2023.
In order for the Board to present the candidate to the public, the statement must include the following consent:
"I consent to the diffusion of my personal details and of the present
statement to the ESMTB audience through the ESMTB website, Newsletter,
Communications and social media accounts, as well as through other
presentation or media that ESMTB will deem appropriate to inform their
audience about the candidates for the next Board elections. I further
consent to receiving information about the elections and ESMTB meetings
via email and personal communication."
The
election will take place in October, 2023, where active members will
express a preference for up to 4 candidates via their personal area
within the ESMTB website. Results will be announced by October 31st,
2023 and a joint Board meeting will be scheduled for December 2023, in
order to effect the transition between the old and new Board members.
