Postdoctoral Positions in Human-Environment Modelling at the University of Guelph and University of Waterloo, Canada

We are seeking 1-2 postdoctoral fellows for research in modelling human-environment systems, under the co-supervision of Prof. Madhur Anand (Global Ecological Change & Sustainability Laboratory, School of Environmental Sciences, University of Guelph: https://www.uoguelph.ca/~manand/Madhur_Anand/Welcome.html) and Prof. Chris Bauch (Department of Applied Mathematics, University of Waterloo: https://www.math.uwaterloo.ca/~cbauch/index.php). 

Applicants will be working on one or more of the following topics: 

1.  Modelling the interactions between climate dynamics and social processes with application to climate policy (e.g. https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pcbi.1007000)

2.  Using machine learning algorithms to analyze the structure and dynamics of social media networks concerning climate change, and simulation modelling of network dynamics. 

3. Modelling agricultural trade networks and/or dynamics of agroecological mosaics (e.g. https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.1604987113, https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-017-07202-y), with potential field work in Brazil and/or India.

Applicants should have an outstanding publication record, and strong skills in oral and written communication, literature review and synthesis, team collaboration, and initiative.  Applicants also require background training or research experience that is relevant to one of the three topics.  Modelling approaches range from mathematical models to agent-based models, but should be empirically-driven. 

Successful applicants may have their primary appointment either at the School of Environmental Sciences, University of Guelph, or at the Department of Applied Mathematics, University of Waterloo, depending on the research project.
