EEG recording and analysis in post-stroke patients with chronic aphasia and development of a clinical treatment based on noninvasive electrical stimulation (tACS) of the human cortex.

Location:

CorStim SAS is a recent startup looking to fill as soon as possible a fully funded postdoctoral position in Montpellier, France. The qualified candidate will benefit from joining a dynamic and multidisciplinary team working at the interface of electrophysiology, computational and cognitive neuroscience, and mathematics.

Opportunity:

CorStim conceives, develops and applies a new medical strategy aimed to restore neurological functions. To this end, our approach integrates closed-loop neurotechnologies with innovative treatments developed through mathematical modeling, engineering and preclinical studies. By working with a network of partners, CorStim is committed to validate this new therapeutic strategy for the treatment of poststroke aphasia. The overarching goal of CorStim is to see our treatment used every day in rehabilitation clinics worldwide as well as in the patients’ home.

Description:

The successful candidate will implement and apply stimulation algorithms to enhance tACS-based therapies from EEG neuromarkers. Specifically, (s)he will:

  • Become familiar with the Starstim 32  system from Neuroelectrics (EEG and tACS)
  • Collaborate with other team members to integrate different pieces of the project 
  • Promote and organize regular team meetings
  • Assist and oversee the development and implementation of immersion and feedback
  • Work closely with clinicians to validate the approach in preclinical trials

Prerequisites:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD) from an international research university in such fields as neuroscience, engineering, or physics
  • Proficiency in E-Prime or equivalent , statistical analyses, Matlab
  • Prior experience with human electrophysiology and analysis of large data sets
  • Good written and verbal skills in English and/or French
  • Demonstrated ability to write results for publication in the scientific literature

Flexibility, ability to learn quickly, to work independently as well as to be part of a scientific team, comfortable working in a clinical environment is necessary.

Compensation will be aligned to the French salary pay scale, (globally between 35 to 40 kEuros depending on experience).
