It is our honour to announce the third edition of our hot-topic workshop series ‘Perturbations in Epilepsy’ to be held on June 12-13, 2024, at the University of Birmingham, UK. The theme of this year’s event is Intervention as a Perturbation.

The workshop is organised by the Centre for Systems Modelling and Quantitative Biomedicine (SMQB) and is planned as an in-person event. We are bringing together key stakeholders such as clinicians, experimentalists, academics, and patient representatives to explore how medication and stimulation affect the brain. The workshop will facilitate knowledge exchange and new collaborations to accelerate research into the treatment of epilepsy.

We have an exciting line-up of keynote speakers giving talks across three thematic sessions:
Treatments: how do medications and surgery affect the brain?
Brain stimulation: how do different forms of stimulations (e.g., VNS and DBS) affect the brain?
Animal models: how do animal experiments help us to understand the impact of interventions on the brain?
We are also hosting a poster session on the first day, giving early career researchers an opportunity to showcase their work and gather feedback.

For further details including the programme and how to register and submit an abstract, please visit the event website at

Please circulate this invitation widely to colleagues. We are offering a reduced rate for student registration to encourage their participation.

We look forward to hosting you at Birmingham!
